UK solar and wind generation hits record levels as the £15bn Warm Homes Plan boosts solar PV and battery storage adoption across homes and businesses.

UK solar and wind generation has reached record levels, highlighting the rapid growth of renewable energy across Great Britain. Increased renewable capacity and improved grid integration are helping reduce reliance on fossil fuels while strengthening long-term energy security. According to BBC analysis of National Energy System Operator data, renewables generated over 127TWh of electricity, the highest level on record.

Wind remained the single largest renewable source, contributing nearly 30% of Great Britain’s electricity supply. Solar also recorded its strongest year to date, generating more than 18TWh, an increase of roughly one third compared with the previous year. Growth has been driven by both large-scale solar farm development and continued expansion in rooftop solar panel installations, alongside favourable weather conditions.

At peak periods during summer months, solar PV generation accounted for more than 40% of electricity output in some half-hour settlement periods, highlighting how far UK solar deployment has expanded over the past decade.

Industry analysts note that while progress is strong, further acceleration will be required to meet the UK government’s 2030 clean power targets. Fossil gas generation remains part of the energy mix, underlining the ongoing role of battery energy storage systems (BESS), grid flexibility, hybrid inverters, and smart energy management technologies.

Alongside these generation milestones, the government has also launched its £15bn Warm Homes Plan, designed to support wider adoption of low-carbon technologies including solar panels, home battery storage systems, and heat pumps. The programme will provide a combination of grants and low-interest loans to households, with additional support targeted at lower-income homes.

The plan aims to expand rooftop solar deployment, improve residential energy efficiency, and reduce long-term household energy costs. It also includes continued support for heat pump installations through extended grant funding and financing options.

Together, record renewable generation and new policy support measures point to continued momentum across the UK solar and wind generation sector, with growing demand for integrated energy systems, monitoring equipment, smart controls, and installer-ready renewable technology solutions across residential and commercial projects.

Businesses and homeowners looking to adopt renewable technologies such as solar PV systems, hybrid inverters, battery storage and EV charging infrastructure are expected to benefit from the continued growth of the UK renewable energy sector and the expansion of government support schemes.
